- 27 people died in forest fires in Portugal
The majority of fires in Portugal were taken under control, with heat dropping and rain effect. Two thousand 700 firefighters are on duty to prevent flames from getting out of control again. Interior Minister Urbano de Sousa resigned because of fires that caused deaths of 41 people. Only four months ago, government was criticized for not taking enough precautions following forest fires that killed 64 people.
The forest fires, which led to deaths of 4 people in northwest of Spain, were also under control.
