96% of the new unemployed who leaves November are women

The rise of unemployment in November has a clear gender: feminine. At end of month, Spanish public employment offices counted 7,255 unemployed more, of which 6,969 were women, ie 96% of total, according to data published yesterday by Ministry of Employment. With this increase, difference between men and women in unemployment lists is widening even more than it has already done. It is something traditional in Spanish labor market that re are more stops than stopped. Inequality is also noted here. However, during some moments of crisis this custom was broken by characteristics of employment generated during housing bubble (a lot of employment in construction, for example, a traditionally masculine sector) and its subsequent sinking.

In years when brick and industry associated with it were great engines of Spanish economy, much of employment created was masculine. So, when bubble burst, jobs associated with brick vanished at same speed. This provoked a very significant increase in male unemployment, which for several months overcame feminine.

The situation has returned to normal when job creation has recovered. However, in none of months when unemployment has risen — in recent years usually for seasonal reasons — a relationship like last November has been recorded: For each new stop re were more than 24 stops.

The explanation is largely in sector where y are majority: services. Unemployment fell in November in all sectors less in this, which added 23,048 unemployed after end of summer season ( 1%). The ascent could not be compensated with descents in rest of economic sectors. In particular, unemployment fell by 6,160 people in collective without previous employment (-2%); In 3,727 persons in construction (-1.2%); in 2,929 in agriculture (-1.7%), and in 2,977 in industry (-1%).

In general, in November, two sides of labour market, employment and unemployment had a bad behavior in November. The first one fell and second went up. The usual for last month: hospitality industry loses bellows and re is no or sector that in high season to compensate. And among affiliations, total volume of lower-quality employment continues to grow and gain weight in labor market as a whole. According to Social Security data, affiliates who had a temporary and/or part-time contract amounted to 41.3%. This percentage grows slowly but without a brake, in same month last year was 40%.
