The AT T Telecommunications Group has just announced purchase of technological firm specializing in cybersecurity AlienVault, one of projects of Spanish entrepreneur Julio Casal. The terms of acquisition, which are expected to be completed throughout third quarter of this year, have not been detailed. The company had raised to date about 120 million dollars since it was created in 2007 and was even raised possibility of quoting in stock market. Among its founders are also Spaniard Alberto Román and Frenchman Dominique Karg.
AlienVault offers technological solutions to companies to anticipate attacks against ir computer systems. It has services for detection and prevention as well as response technologies. AT T already has solutions in this area. The telecommunications company explains that acquisition will allow it to be more effective in detecting and responding. Although company was born in Madrid, it operates from Silicon Valley after signing management team of Hewlett Packard's Fortify group in 2012. Barmak Meftah was n placed at forefront of management of AlienVault. Three years later, he allied with Intel to coordinate real-time threat information. The platform works as a community in which expert professionals share data.
Among big names that financially supported company are Intel Capital, Kleiner Perkins Caufield Byers Fund and GGV Capital. The firms that are rivals in security business are Zscaler and Carbos Black, which are listed on stock market. In end, AlienVault has opted to be integrated into structure of one of largest telecommunications companies in world.
After acquisition, AlienVault team will join AT T. "Its technological innovation and its security talent will help us to strengn vision of providing effective solutions in field of cybersecurity to companies of any size", Noted Thaddeus Arroyo, CEO of AT T Business division, who insists that this protection is a necessity for all businesses.
According to a study by Ponemon Institute, more than 60% of small and medium sized companies suffered some form of computer intrusion or assault on ir servers. It is an increase compared to 55% of previous year.
