The Secretary of State for infrastructure, transport and housing, Julio Gómez-Pomar, has admitted this Wednesday, coinciding with strike of taxi drivers, that number of licenses of car hire with driver (VTC) such as those using firms such as Uber and Cabify Triple permitted by law.
According to data of Ministry of Development, re are 65,000 taxi licenses ( INE figures in 70,000) by 6,000 of VTC, which throws an approximate ratio of more 1 VTC for every 10 taxi authorizations, when law establishes a ratio of a license of VTC for every 30 of tax I.
The situation can be aggravated after Supreme Court's ruling that obliges to grant 80 authorisations of VTC by a legal vacuum between 2009 and 2012, whose jurisprudence opens door granting or 10,000 licenses which will cause ratio to rise to a VTC license for every 4 taxi.
Gómez-Pomar, who only expressly acknowledged that in "certain autonomous communities" has exceeded this ratio, announced that new royal decree, which will repeal previous 2015, to restrict concession and scope of action of VTC will be ready to Early next year and not at end of 2017, as planned.
However, number two of development warned that, although no furr licensing can be granted on administrative route, government "cannot legislate against court rulings".
