Randstad foresees record of contracts in Christmas despite a possible fall of sales in Catalonia

The temporary work company Randstad still appreciates that Spanish economy lives a good time and expects that that is evident in employment for Christmas campaign. According to firm, 387,750 contracts will be signed for this period that begins informally with Black Friday, which this year will be November 24th, and ends after January reworks. The figure is 11.1% higher than last year's. The figure contemplates situation of instability in Catalonia on occasion of sovereignty challenge, according to sources of Randstad. Once again, jobs related to trade, logistics and restoration will be most demanded.

Randstad estimates that " good prospects of economic growth in Spain, coupled with good behavior of labor market in recent years" will lead to best campaign of Christmas hiring of its historical series, which starts in 2007-2008. Thus, it expects that 348,868 contracts that were signed last season (Randstad had predicted 338,000) will remain short in this. It is fifth consecutive year that Randstad's forecast points to double-digit growth, from 2013-2014 campaign. If contract data is met, this year number of contracts of 2012 (201,000) will almost double.

Andalusia, with 75,920, will be region where more contracts are signed, followed by Catalonia (55,205) and Madrid (50,050). However, largest percentages of growth in relation to 2016 campaign will be recorded in Asturias (14.7%), Euskadi (14.4%) and Galicia (13.7%). Madrid and Canary Islands are located very close to national average, while Catalunya (10.8%), Navarra (10.3%), Andalusia (10%) or Baleares (10%) are below.

Valentin Boat, director of Randstad Research, has explained that results in Catalonia already collect a possible impact on hiring of instability and uncertainty related to challenge sovereignty. As explained to this newspaper, "a small data corrector has been introduced only in Catalonia", so that prognosis for this community is elaborated based on some data of GDP growth "a few tenths" lower than those registered in Last trimesters. According to boat, it is a "non-aggressive" correction, since, in situations of uncertainty, it is usually big expenses that are reduced (cars, voyages ...). Not osbtante, it should be noted that due to this instability more than a thousand companies have moved ir headquarters outside Catalonia and tourist reserves have fallen to 20%, same percentage that, according to minister of Economy, Luis de Guindos, have lowered Sales in department stores in Catalonia since illegal referendum on October 1.

Again, sectors that will concentrate largest number of hirings are those related to trade, attention to public, catering/hospitality, Transport (tourism) and logistics, as electronic commerce continues to grow in rhythms Higher than 20% quarter after quarter. Contracts, in its vast majority, will be temporary.

In relation to boom in electronic commerce, Randstad emphasizes that re is a great demand for packaging, Carretilleros, warehouse or carriers, among ors. Also, although not only in relation to e-commerce, demand for public service personnel is increased. In fact, traditional trade remains sector that more personal demand for Christmas, especially dependent, promoters or stewards, so it is especially valued capacity of communication and close treatment with public. Also hospitality industry is especially intensive at Christmas, so it demands cooks, kitchen assistants and waiters. Experience and languages are valued in all se positions.
