A total of 8.8 million foreign tourists visited Spain in September, 11.4% more than last year, according to National Institute of Statistics (INE) reported today. It is best data for a month of September of whole historical series. In four months of summer, total number of tourists amounts to 38.2 million, 8.9% more than in same months last year. In year, y have visited Spain in first nine months of year 66,130,000 of tourists, 10.1% more.
Despite slowdown of month of August, when figure was only 4% higher than that of same month of 2016, arrival of tourists has returned to catch strength in September. The monthly data, summer and accumulated of year mark new records, surpassing those of last year in same dates. In absence of checking impact of independence challenge in Catalonia in month of October, Spain is very likely to close year with more than 80 million foreign tourists.
In September, Catalonia received 1,990,000 visitors, 6% more than in September. Still, it was not most visited community. That honor corresponded to Balearic Islands, with 2 million.
Once again, UK was main tourist market for Spain in September. During last month, 2.8 million British visited Spain, 8.2% more than in September 2016. So far this year, it's been 15,390,000, 7.8% more. The next issuer market was Germany, with 1.4 million, 9.3% more (9.6 million and 7.5% more in year's). Less growth experience French market, with 9.3 million in what goes from year, only 1.5% more.
