Tourist spending in Catalonia resists in October despite the fall of arrivals

Tourist spending in Catalonia resists in October despite the fall of arrivals

Tourists who visited Spain in October spent a total of 7.763 billion euros, 5.9% more than in same month last year, and average every tourist disbursed 144 euros a day during ir stay, also a 5.8% more than twelve months ago , according to Tourist expenditure survey published today by INE. In Catalonia, although number of tourists resented in October, month of independence climax, with a fall of 4.7%, those who visited community did not skimp: In total, y left 1.54 billion of euros, a 4.9% more, and average daily expenditure per tourist grew even more , 6.8%, up to 187 euros.

In year accumulated, expenditure of foreign tourists amounts to 77,655,000,000 euros in Spain, an increase of 13.1% compared to same period of 2016, a percentage appreciably higher than that registered in October, when increase of expenditure remained in 5.9%. In fact, annual growth rate of October is by far lowest of year: since January, annual rate had not been lowered from double digit until October, indicating a certain slowdown that is noticed in different tourist indicators Since end of summer.

In whole of Spain, average expenditure per tourist reached 1,068 euros, 4% more, but increased average daily expenditure, a more reliable fact because it is more individualized and does not depend on duration of stay. So each tourist spent day in October 144 euros, eight more ( 5.8%) than last year for same dates. It is not historical maximum, which was registered in May with 146 euros.

Although spending increases apace, gradual decrease in duration of estancias continues. In October, tourists who visited Spain stayed an average of 7.4 days, a tenth less than a year ago. Tourists spend more than half a day and in whole of ir stays, which compensates for fact that re are more and more shorter periods.
