The madrid editor, Juan Casamayor, founder and director of independent label Pages of Foam, has been honored this Wednesday with a Tribute to Merit Editorial 2017 of International Book Fair of Guadalajara (FIL). The festival mexican recognizes “its militancy, commitment, and expertise around story,” gender primary of your editorial “that he has promoted, with tenacity and patience.” The label has built a catalog where re are short story writers, contemporaries of likes of Guillermo Arriaga, Andrés Neuman or Samanta Schweblin, along with classics of universal literature.

With a score of novelties to year and a presence both in Spain and in Latin America, publisher “has succeeded in linking writers and readers of two shores of Atlantic”, said jury. The recognition will be delivered on 27th of November in frame of FIL, one of meetings most important of Spanish literature, which is held in capital of mexican State of Jalisco.

Casamayor founded Pages of Foam in 1999, toger with Encarnación Molina, editor of stamp. By that celebrates tribute team, along with all booksellers, publishers, journalists and readers that have formed part of history of publishing house. “Sorry in a collective way,” he says. Both Molina as he says, are “lovers of story”, literary genre to which y have dedicated nearly 20 years of work.

“The story is a world that if you get infected, you're stuck,” confesses Casamayor. Despite fact that supports to go “with an optimism tempered by life,” says that “re is no one who will put a ‘but’ to story in a literary way”. “It is not a minor genre or a springboard for young writers”, points decidedly. On contrary, believes that work of independent publishers, like yours, that have open spaces in story, has led to a business evolution of this genre in recent years. “Even big publishers have realized that it is profitable”, he stresses.

For Casamayor, recognition of FIL includes his work both in Spain and in Latin america. From early Pages of Foam, has its founder, came to its offices in Madrid texts by authors from or side of Atlantic. So that its subsequent expansion to all countries of Latin America was a natural, according to Casamayor, who also considers that this should be a common objective of Spanish publishing houses. “We have a commitment with Latin america”, he reiterated. “You have to cross bridge, be on that side”. In that sense, distinction just encourages to be more involved in tending to transatlantic ties, in “living up to”.

His greatest gratification in se years dedicated to editing of stories has been catalog that have managed to build in Pages of Foam. Works which in ir time belonged to authors little or nothing known and that y decided to publish, today considered a reference. Highlights, among ors, anthologies Small resistors, edited by writer of hispano-argentine Andrés Neuman, and please, be brief, to position of narrator argentine-Spanish Clara Obliged. Both compiled short stories by contemporary Spanish authors, so that Casamayor considered “founding” of genre today.

This commitment to publish “at least one first work of year”, founder of Pages of Foam considered rar an obligation for all seals. “The editor should be politically active”, he warns. At least he, from his foxhole, fighting for “reclaiming fairy tale in Spain,” and “bet by authors of here and now.” For that reason, without subtracting importance to complete works that have been published of great short story writers like Chekhov or Maupassant, personally, feel a great pride in ir contemporary production.
