President of AKPM resigned

The President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe resigned Agramunt. Agramunt was the target of harsh criticism with the rationale that he had visited Assad before.

President of AKPM resigned

Parliamentary Assembly of Council of Europe (AKPM) president Pedro Agramunt reportedly left task.

In a written statement by Council of Europe, Pedro Agramunt resigned from presidency of AKPM with letter sent.

Visit to Assad

Agramunt's representation authority was taken after meeting with Bashar Assad by visiting Syria with members of Duma's lower wing of Russian Parliament at end of March.

After allegations of corruption and political scandal, amendment to AKPM regulation will begin on Monday, at General Assembly of AKPM fall semester, a session would be held for purpose of Agramunt's dismissal. The Council of Europe announced cancellation of this session after resignation of Spanish politician Agramunt.


Agramunt, elected to AKPM presidency in January 2016, said in a statement from his Twitter account, "Today, I have decided to leave presidency of AKPM for personal reasons".

By AKPM's rules instead of Agramunt, British Sir Roger Gale, oldest vice president, will pass. The next General Assembly will be elected for presidency of AKPM.
