The special prosecutor of Russian plot, Robert Mueller, has accused former national security adviser, Michael Flynn, of having lied to FBI about his conversations with former Russian ambassador, Sergey Kislyak. Flynn, according to American media, will accept charges this morning in a clear indication that he has begun to cooperate. It is greatest blow to date in an investigation that has White House against ropes and already had three imputed: an adviser who gave false testimony about ir connections with Russia, and former campaign manager and a partner for fraud and tax crimes.
The Gordian knot of conflict was a conversation between Flynn and ambassador at end of last December, while Obama announced expulsion of 35 Russian diplomats for Kremlin's interference during election campaign. The call sought to temper Vladimir Putin's response to sanctions. Flynn, at that time without an official charge, although in shadow government, hinted to ambassador that if Moscow were moderated, it would be easier for m to rebalance relations when y came to power on 20 January. After this conversation, Russian president decided not to retaliate against United States.
After being interrogated by FBI when he was still a national security advisor, Flynn denied having discussed Kremlin's sanctions with Russian ambassador. This version offered to federal agents came into flagrant contradiction with recordings of this talk obtained by services of American counterespionage. The wiretaps, in hands of interim attorney general, Sally Yates, opened up a deep crisis. Flynn had not only denied talks with Kislyak to FBI, but also to Vice President Mike Pence. This lie made him susceptible, according to Department of Justice, of blackmail by Kremlin. Yates asked for it to cease immediately. Trump, Regañadiente, he gave it to him. The lieutenant general had barely lasted 24 days in office.
This was end of career of one of most brilliant military in last decade.
Under Barack Obama's tenure, Flynn was considered one of great values of army. Brilliant and disruptive on battlefield, he was in charge of elite unit intelligence operations such as SEAL and Delta Force, and in 2012 he went on to lead military intelligence agency.
Destined to highest, his ascent was twisted by his own foot. In agency his inability to dialogue, his continued verbal aggressions to subordinates and chief, and his Acendrada Islamophobia broke his leadership. In 2014 he was ousted.
After leaving military employment, Lieutenant General opened a consultancy, Flynn Intel Group. A business of influence that soon fell into orbit of Russia and Turkey. As an advisor, he received payments from Kaspersky cybersecurity company and Volga-DNEPR airline. He also worked for Russian state media group RT, which CIA considers one of links of campaign of intoxication against Hillary Clinton. Pampered by Russia, in 2015 he came to attend a public dinner in which he sat at same table as Putin.
