UNESCO withdraws from Israel after the United States

Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu announced that United States will withdraw from United Nations education, Science and Culture Organization (UNESCO).

Netanyahu said in his written opening, he instructed Foreign Ministry to "prepare for withdrawal from UNESCO in parallel with decision of United States".

Describing US decision to withdraw from UNESCO as "courageous and ethical", Netanyahu argued that reason for this was that institution "transformed into an absurd ater that destroys history instead of preserving".

The US State Department has announced that it has been separated from UNESCO due to its "anti-Israel stance" and "structural reform need".

"On October 12, 2017, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, United States, decision to withdraw from UNESCO and status of Permanent Observer in institution has been declared to UNESCO general Director, Irina Bokova. This is not a decision taken easily. It is a reflection of concerns carried out by United States, such as continuation of anti-Israeli stance on UNESCO and need for structural reform in institution, "he said.
